Curated by Design

The Poet and/the Bench edit of emerging and independent designers and artists reflects our passion for discovery and a considered fascination with narrative, taste and a devotion to craft.

Shop our curation. We feature more than 40 artists and designers across jewelry, home goods, fine art and apothecary goods. These are often bespoke, 1-of-a-kind, limited edition or small batch collections. A majority of our artists are from the San Francisco Bay Area, most are women, and a good selection of our artists are Black, Indigenous, people of color (BIPOC); Latinx; AAPI (Asian and Pacific Islander); and LGBTQ artists.

Excited to bring you framed works on paper from Laura Roebuck as an extension of her abstract paintings on canvas. Stark Flower 2 (with green) expresses the qualities of Laura's Fertile Soil series with its growth themes. We love the muted tones and modern white gloss wood framing.

About Our Name

Jeffrey’s vintage jewelry bench is a powerfully present icon of his craft and our symbol of all makers’ tools for creating: the painter’s canvas, the textile designer’s loom, the potter’s wheel, the materials that become things…

Our mission—narrative’s ability to connect through thoughtful investigations of craft, subjects and inspirations—is the poetry, and about people and the appreciation of beauty.

Poet and/the Bench is our platform—online and at our flagship store in Mill Valley, CA—to introduce emerging and independent artists, muses and discoveries, and give them a voice. And for you to be linked to stories in a way that makes it all more personal.

“Being an artist is a calling,” says Jeffrey Levin. A Cape Town, South Africa, native, he was born into a family of jewelers. “I have immense respect for the foundations, iconic designs and simplicity. I embrace a more European style, which translates to the clean lines you’ll see in my work as well as an approach of making perfectly imperfect tactile pieces,” he says.
