Privacy policy

This Privacy Policy describes how your personal information is collected, used, and shared when you visit or make a purchase from www.poetandthebench.com (the “Site”).

PERSONAL INFORMATION WE COLLECT
When we talk about “Personal Information” in this Privacy Policy, we are talking both about Device Information and Order Information.

Your information is never sold and is exclusively shared only with trusted third party platforms, including Shopify, MailChimp and Google Analytics. Shopify powers our ecommerce platform and some of our marketing apps; MailChimp manages our email marketing campaigns with your consent; and Google Analytics helps us understand how our customers use the Site.

When you visit the Site, certain information about your device is automatically collected, including information about your web browser, IP address, time zone, and some of the cookies that are installed on your device. Additionally, as you browse the Site, information is collected about the individual web pages or products that you view, what websites or search terms referred you to the Site, and information about how you interact with the Site. We refer to this automatically-collected information as “Device Information.”

We may collect Device Information using the following technologies:
    - “Cookies” are data files that are placed on your device or computer and often include an anonymous unique identifier. For more information about cookies, and how to disable cookies, visit http://www.allaboutcookies.org.
    - “Log files” track actions occurring on the Site, and collect data including your IP address, browser type, Internet service provider, referring/exit pages, and date/time stamps.
    - “Web beacons,” “tags,” and “pixels” are electronic files used to record information about how you browse the Site.

Consent of your personal information is obtained when you provide us with personal information to complete a transaction, verify your credit card, place an order, request a custom quote or special order, arrange for a delivery, return a purchase, sign up for an event or sign up for our mailing list. We imply that you consent to our collecting it and using it for that specific reason only. If we ask for your personal information for a secondary reason, we will either ask you directly for your expressed consent, or provide you with an opportunity to say no. You can also withdraw consent from email marketing after you opt-in and you may withdraw your consent for us to contact you for the continued collection, use or disclosure of your information, at anytime, by contacting us at hello@poetandthebench.com or mailing us at: Poet and the Bench, 11 Throckmorton Avenue, Mill Valley, CA 94941

Additionally when you make a purchase or attempt to make a purchase through the Site, certain information is collected from you, including your name, billing address, shipping address, payment information, email address, and phone number.  We refer to this information as “Order Information.”

If you choose a direct payment gateway to complete your purchase (eg Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover), then Shopify stores your credit card data. It is encrypted through the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI-DSS). Your purchase transaction data is stored only as long as is necessary to complete your purchase transaction. After that is complete, your purchase transaction information is deleted. If you chose an external payment provider (eg PayPal) that integrates with Shopify, you are redirected to complete your payment with the external payment provider. When payment is complete, you are redirected back to our store to view your order summary and confirmation page.

HOW DO WE USE YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION?
We use the Order Information that we collect generally to fulfill any orders placed through the Site (including processing your payment information, arranging for shipping, and providing you with invoices and/or order confirmations). Additionally, we use this Order Information to:

Communicate with you;
Screen our orders for potential risk or fraud; and
When in line with the preferences you have shared with us, provide you with information
or advertising relating to our products or services.

We use the Device Information that we collect to help us screen for potential risk and fraud (in particular, your IP address), and more generally to improve and optimize our Site (for example, by generating analytics about how our customers browse and interact with the Site, and to assess the success of our marketing and advertising campaigns and which may include remarketing).

To protect your personal information, we take reasonable precautions and follow industry best practices to make sure it is not inappropriately lost, misused, accessed, disclosed, altered or destroyed.

If you provide us with your credit card information, the information is encrypted using secure socket layer technology (SSL) and stored with a AES-256 encryption. Although no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure, we follow all PCI-DSS requirements and implement additional generally accepted industry standards.
