Based in both the Bay Area and South Korea, Joy’s practice as a ceramic sculptor is rooted in the pursuit of emotional resonance. Through the tactile medium of clay, she creates works that evoke a profound sense of comfort and offer moments of quiet joy. Her artistic inquiry focuses on the capacity of form to foster human connection and elicit a visceral, uplifting response from the viewer.
In the repetitive process of tearing, trimming, shaping and attaching pieces by hand, unexpected shapes and characters often emerge. Those small accidents and discoveries lead the artist somewhere she hadn't originally planned. And we're all happier because of it!
