Berlin, Germany

Anna Butwell left Brooklyn for Berlin, where she makes her ultra cool punk-meets-Japanese Wabi Sabi collection of jewelry. She uses sand casting to produce each piece from start to finish, pushing the technical limitations of the medium with experimentation and innovation. Chains, gems and stampings are intriguing elements that give her jewelry recognizable texture. She loves melting metal into a liquid with an oxygen and propane torch harnessing narrative ideas into small scale metal work. She embraces the beauty that lies below the surface of what appears to blemished which is shown through the jewelry left slightly rough, celebrating the imperfections of the hand of the maker.
