Worldwide Artist in Residence-based Austyn Taylor’s figurative sculpture marries Austyn’s view on contemporary design with pop culture. Austyn Taylor draws from ancient and contemporary sources to create works of “folk-pop”. Somewhere between “hype” and “hope” the history of their creation is reflected in the material handling. The work provokes a curious humor and delight that comes with resonation to the absurd and alienating experience of existing. Inspired by American animation, Austyn's art calls back to our animist history where wandering spirits found refuge in masks and idols. Lucky us, animals that imagine being human.
