Jeffrey Palladini / Fine Art / Painting / Thread Series / Thread 3

$ 1,20000

Jeffrey's Thread Series is his most recent thesis and an exploration across materials. In this brand new work, the random looping and twisting patterns of a dropped length of twine are a seductive metaphor for the way we get from our aims and dreams to the outcomes. But, as Jeffrey reflects, “the more you try to exert control the random creeps in, [and] it turns out that the more you try to represent the random the more control creeps in.”

The artist continues to paint on wood panels, most of which he builds himself in order that his purposeful brushstrokes can best be viewed. He is also painting on a new art paper innovation for oils on paper that does not allow the oils to sink in and thus sit on the surface as they do on panels. Jeffrey is also painting over printed images as well as original artworks from his earliest collections. Jeffrey is a master at outline and does not use any masking to draw his figures, environments or words.

Note: The oils on paper are sold unframed. Thread #3 is shown framed (sold unframed) in a dining room setting on the right side, with Thread Series #2 Blue Almost Black on the right side.

Description

“In representing the random in my artwork, I challenged myself to explore ways to do so without including the human figure–a major departure for me, as nearly all of my work over the last 15 years has been figurative.

As I've created fully-realized artworks, the realization has crept in that one of the most fascinating things about this exploration is that, just as how the more you try to exert control the random creeps in, it turns out that the more you try to represent the random the more control creeps in. After all, I selected the string, its length, the distance from which I dropped it, how closely cropped the composition, the materials and colors used, etc.  And, it is not lost on me that my tightly controlled painting technique is certainly in juxtaposition to, if not at odds with, my goal of representing the random.” ~ Jeffrey Palladini
