Workshop | Unbound Flora

UNBOUND FLORA was presented in the intimacy of our home’s backyard, styled specifically to allow us to alchemize connection and beauty together. Thank you all for the immersive, hands-on fun, laughter and beautiful arrangements you designed at our first workshop. It was a dopamine release!

Tiffany Blaylock Matador Studio Floral Designer Workshop at Poet and the Bench Mill Valley

Our guest artists for UNBOUND FLORA: (1) We handed the mic over to the artful and charming stylist and floral designer, Tiffany Blaylock, founder of Matador Studio. With a background in interior design, Tiff brings a keen eye to both spaces and sculptural floral arrangements. We learned two arrangement styles: Modern Sculptural and Wild Garden.

Minimalist ingredients resulted in sophisticated, surprising and stunning floral art!

(2) Ian Hazard Bill is one of our most unusual and coveted ceramic artists. His signatures are gestures in clay, drilled holes and wood firing. He has returned to the Bay Area for the indefinite future to work as an artist and teach. His vases were made especially for the 1st workshop teaching of a Modern Sculptural arrangement.

While each piece is handmade and manipulated, Ian takes great care to ensure his work is very functional, comfortable to use, and beautiful to look at. His work is inspired by the importance of moments shared over food and drink and how our connections are deepened and strengthened by these times.

We love a dramatic vase to layer with other objects. A basin to fill with nourishing and temporal things. The surprise of drilled holes for floral magic.

Ian utilizes wood firing techniques that imprint the pottery with the atmosphere of the kiln, bringing out a variety of colors from the clay itself. In this way each piece has a unique character that celebrates the journey of creation these objects have been through and enriches the life they are given through their use.

Set in the expansive garden of our private home, this intimate afternoon celebrated the alchemy of joy, creativity, storytelling, and design through flowers and form. More moments of connection are cooking, too. We’re working on a variety of culinary events, workshops, and speaker panels, so do stay tuned to our newsletter and socials!  Join the mailing list to be part of the happenings!
