MATERIAL
Natural Pigment, Acrylic, Oil Stick on Canvas

Lagoon, abstract landscape painting by Danielle Hutchens. A memory painting of the Malibu surf at sunset.

A former career in graphic design lends a narrative structure to Danielle's abstract artwork. She embraces natural materials, sourcing pigments from hikes. Rocks are grind up into powder and mixed with nontoxic binders, like walnut oil. This archival material is often combined with acrylics, oil pastels, sketches and charcoal, lending layered complexity to Danielle's artwork.

Danielle is guided by both a patient process of developing and working with natural materials and a translation of how she sees the world, its wild forms, and the balancing of feminine and masculine energy and themes.

“Living and creating in the environment of Topanga has a huge influence on me. The serene landscapes and abundant natural resources have not only inspired my work but have driven me to be more conscious of my impact on the environment with art.”
