The work of Kelly Shimoda is very much informed by her photography. There's symmetry and alignment which helps create a landscape-feel to her pieces. Her clay work combines the industrial feel of metallic elements with the softness of everyday life.

• Materials – Black stoneware clay strung on black hemp cord or toasty sand colored stoneware clay toothy beads strung on light brown hemp cord, looped at the top for hanging with ball or bent beads at top and bottom 
• Dimensions – From bead to bead approximately 12” long, 2-3” wide
• Care - Indoor/outdoor display, although care should be taken in rough weather conditions; Tableware is food and dishwasher safe, although hand washing is always preferred. Ceramic jewelry is inherently delicate and while hardy enough for regular wear, care in handling is always recommended.

Note: Each item varies slightly, reflecting the beauty of hand built ceramics.

Kelly Shimoda has always enjoyed making things and worked as a photographer before she started working with clay. She tells us that making art is something she has to do, no matter the medium, as it's the way she feels most comfortable expressing herself. You'll see inspiration from Kelly's observing the landscape and the natural world–no surprise with a visual-artist mother whose subject focus is climate change. Her work has also evolved into an area of play, now that Kelly is a mom. We love the organic shapes and elements of surprise in her objects.
