"Obscuring the Curve (IN GREEN)" has both complexity and containment in composition. Geometric shapes and color field interplay with layers of subdued tones which create a quiet border.
From the artist: Obscuring the Curve emerged from a confluence of uncharacteristic factors. The combination of size, color, and shape was not typical of my recent work; both the narrow canvas and the green and gray hues were departures for me. I was drawn to this specific canvas for its novelty, particularly the size. It was neither as small nor as large as what I had been painting previously. Initially, I worked on the piece vertically but increasingly gravitated to the final horizontal version. The title refers to the uncharacteristic curved shapes I began the painting with. I tried to work with the curves; however, I felt constrained. Abandoning the curves for the linear forms was more natural to me and had a remarkably liberating effect which was amplified by switching the orientation of the painting and reinterpreting the shapes.
