“The ‘slash putty attack’ surface on this slab built piece is a pattern I developed as a teenager- usually with thick Sharpies - I drew it over t-shirts and canvases. Slashing lines automates a sort of written language, every gesture conducting and contortions reality… I have never seen a bunny in Mendocino and only 1 squirrel.” ~ Austyn Taylor, Blue "Boy Bunny" Rabbit Head
A new menagerie of ceramic animal sculptures just landed by sculptor Austyn Taylor. Fun, celebratory works at the intersection of contemporary art, history and pop culture. All of her invented characters draw from ancient and contemporary sources to create works of “folk-pop”. Somewhere between “hype” and “hope” the history of their creation is reflected in the material handling.
