Every object tells a story.

Objects with Meaning
We get to know each artist and their story and share that with you. We believe that when people are buying in a more examined way you feel connected to objects in significantly more meaningful ways.
Curated by Design
The Poet and/the Bench edit of emerging and independent designers and artists reflects our passion for discovery and a considered fascination with narrative, taste and a devotion to craft.
Shop our curation. We feature more than 60 artists and designers across jewelry, home goods, fine art and apothecary goods. These are bespoke, 1-of-a-kind, limited edition or small batch collections–uncommon, never mass. A majority of our artists are from the San Francisco Bay Area, most are women, and a good selection of our artists are Black, Indigenous, people of color (BIPOC); Latinx; AAPI (Asian and Pacific Islander); and LGBTQ artists.
A community hub–where art, design, objects and conversation mingle.
About Our Name
Jeffrey’s vintage jewelry bench is a powerfully present icon of his craft and our symbol of all makers’ tools for creating: the painter’s canvas, the textile designer’s loom, the potter’s wheel, the materials that become things…
Our mission—narrative’s ability to connect through thoughtful investigations of craft, subjects and inspirations—is the poetry, and about people and the appreciation of beauty.
Poet and/the Bench is our platform—online and at our flagship store in Mill Valley, CA—to introduce emerging and independent artists, muses and uncommon discoveries, and give them a voice. And for you to be linked to stories in a way that makes it all more personal.
